Road to Miss Universe 2011: Chile returns to the Miss Universe after 5-year absence.
Chile, a country of good tradition at the Miss Universe contest, will return to the competition after a 5-year absence. Its last participation was in 2006.

Chile had an excellent track record during the 80′s, including the victory in 1987 of one of the country’s biggest celebrities, Cecilia Bolocco. During the late 90′s and early 2000′s, Chile kept a low profile, despite their placement in the Top 15 semi finals in 2004.
The new pageant is called “Miss Universo Chile”, and in its facebook page they already confirm a series of regional castings in the search of the new winner, who will represent the country in the 2011 Miss Universe pageant to be held in Brazil.

Miss Asia Pageant was first organized by Asia Television Limited (ATV), a media company of Hong Kong in 1985. However, competition was suspended from 2000 to 2003 and was re-organized in 2004. Since then, the pageant has been opened for beauties not only in Hongkong but from other countries in Asia such as Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China, Thailand, Philippines, South Korea, Japan, India, Singapore, Lebanon, Uzbekistan and Vietnam

Starting from 2004, the semi-finals are held in Hong Kong and Mainland China. The final tournament’s format was changed to divide contestants into three categories: Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan; Mainland China; and the rest of Asia. However, there are usually multiple representatives from Hong Kong and Mainland China, compared to one contestant from each of the rest of the countries.

Miss Bolivia Olivia Pinheiro will not participate in Miss Universe 2011

Miss Bolivia 2010, Olivia Pinheiro, who had been in the eye of the hurricane these past weeks due to controversies about her real age, has declined to represent her country in the 2011 Miss Universe pageant, according to a press release sent by Promociones Gloria, national license holder of Miss Universe in Bolivia, this Thursday.

The controversy erupted last week when it was reported by TV programs that Pinheiro had not been accepted in the 2011 Miss Universe competition because she didn’t fulfill the age requirements. Promociones Gloria confirmed that they had not sent in the paperwork yet, which meant the disqualification was not true. However, the subject raised a controversy that made national and international headlines.

Pinheiro never faced the media, as she was vacationing in Brazil with her family (she is half Brazilian on her father’s side). Doubts about her real age started making headlines in the Bolivian media as the eager audience wanted to know what would happen if she was not accepted in Miss Universe, and if not, who would replace her.

On Thursday, January 27th, Olivia Pinheiro, surrounded by the controversy, took the decision of not representing Bolivia in the international pageant, citing ‘personal matters’. Promociones Gloria has sent a press release to all media outlets stating Pinheiro’s decision. However, she will remain ”Miss Bolivia 2010′ until she gives up her crown, in June.

The press release sent by Promociones Gloria indicates that the new Miss Bolivia 2011 will be chosen in late June, and the winner from this contest will go on to represent the country in the Miss Universe pageant, next September, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
